Here at Tick Performance, we outfit all of our rebuild packages with all of the options necessary to support the amount of power that we rate them at. That said, when you choose a rebuild package, there are still some options that you have available to you, including:

NON VEHICLE-SPECIFIC OPTIONS:

Core Exchange Program: Not Available
As time goes on, rebuild-able T56 cores become harder and harder to find.  For this reason, we no longer offer any sort of core exchange program.  All of our transmission rebuild prices are assuming that you're shipping your core to us except for any Level 4 or Level 5 T56 Magnum/TR-6060 conversion, which does not require any sort of core exchange.

Media Blast & Paint Case: $160.00
During any rebuild here at Tick Performance, all transmission cases are washed and de-greased. Even after this treatment, many are stained, discolored and just don’t look as good as they did when new. Our media blast and paint service gives the transmission a much more professional, finished look. Available in Black Satin or Silver. This option adds no extra turnaround time.

Powdercoating Case: $300.00
During any rebuild here at Tick Performance, all transmission cases are washed and de-greased. Even after this treatment, many are stained, discolored and just don’t look as good as they did when new. Our powdercoating service gives the transmission a much more professional, finished look that is much more durable than paint. Available in Black Satin or Silver. This option adds 2-3 days to your turnaround time.

New Bearings: $199.99
Although they’re not included with our rebuild packages, we consider bearings a smart thing to do for everyone and a must do for those of you with more than 120,000 miles on the clock. If you’ve had any strange noises coming from your transmission, bearings are a wise investment. We use Timken and Koyo Bearings. This option adds no extra turnaround time.

Cryogenic Treatment: Included in some rebuild packages ($350.00 separately)
Suggested for those of you making big power and wanting to avoid parts failure of any kind. This process involves dropping the temperature of your T56 internals to hundreds of degrees below zero. This results in a more uniform distribution of hardness, dramatic increase in wear resistance, and reduced residual stresses (along with many other benefits!) Technically, it doesn't make the metal itself any stronger, but by distributing the strength uniformly, the end product significantly stronger. For example, picture one chain where all of the links in the chain can lift 1000 pounds - except for one. One link can only lift 700 pounds. This is the same as an untreated gear; it will shatter at the weak point when you push it to the limit. Now picture a chain where all the links can lift 1000 pounds. This is like the treated gear, it will be able to handle much more abuse. Practically every hard part inside your T56 will be cryotreated, including 1-6 Gears, Shift Rails, Mainshaft, All Synchronizer Assemblies and all Shift Forks.

REM ® Polishing: Included in some rebuild packages ($250.00 separately)
Suggested for anybody wanting to get every last drop of performance out of their transmission. The REM two-step procedure is more of a finishing process than a polishing process. The first step, referred to as the "Refinement Process", involves a chemical interaction on the surface of the part. A soft, thin (one micron) film is formed on the surface of the part. The part then interacts with the ceramic media in a special vibratory bowl. During this interaction the film is physically removed from the "peaks" of the processed part and the "valleys" are unaffected. The chemically induced film re-forms only at the peaks that are interacting with the vibratory media, and the process repeats itself. Over time, the peaks are removed, leaving only the valleys, producing the improved micro finish. The second step is referred to as the "Burnish Process." After the required micro finish is achieved, a mild alkaline mixture is introduced. After a relatively short period of time, a polished, chrome-like finish is produced. In addition to the polishing effects, this step effectively removes all traces of the film formation from the refinement process. Typical benefits from this process are Reduced Friction and Vibration and Noise, Improved Shifting, Longer Life, Less Parasitic Drivetrain Loss, and Reduction in Transmission Lubricant Temperature. We REM Polish only the 1-6 gears in the transmission as well as all of the Synchronizer Assemblies. These are the only internal parts that would benefit from this process.

Transmission Fluid Pump & Cooler Bungs/Sprayers: Included in some rebuild packages
It is seen time and time again in big horsepower cars that do standing mile or high speed pulls often, and road race or autocross applications; the input shaft bearing is becomes starved for fluid and fails, causing a chain reaction of damage inside the transmission.  With this option, we install and weld bungs and spray tubes inside your transmission that will direct transmission fluid onto your input shaft and third gear teeth that are prone to failure.  This is not a complete kit, as you will need to provide and plumb your own fluid pump, filter, cooler and lines.  A complete kit is not available at this time.

Billet Front Plate

Include the Tick Performance Billet Front plate and save $200. The front plate is $50 when combined with a rebuild like this one, and includes a much-improved bung and sprayer design ($150 value). The sprayer consisted of a machined and welded bar that extrudes into the transmission, coating 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears more evenly with oil.

·       Improved Bungs and Sprayer system coats 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears in oil

·       Improved rigidity, better gear mesh, and engagement

·       O-ring sealing for a leak-proof design

·       Can be used with either T56 or Magnums (includes necessary adapters)

The Tick Performance Billet Front Plate for T56 and T56 Magnums is machined here in house in Mount Airy, North Carolina. The billet design vastly improves strength, which decreases gear deflection and enhances performance.

In our testing, we’ve found better gear engagement and improved gear wear patterns. It handles torque deflection better, too, improving the life of your transmission. See the dropdown menu to add it to your build. T56 transmissions require an additional bearing ($39.99). The billet plate pricing includes the Tick Performance Hi-Flow Trans Pump kit (with filter and fittings).

Faceplated Gearset: $850.00 (available during a rebuild only)
Suggested for all manually shifted dedicated racecars, faceplating is a procedure very similar to proshifting, but much more durable and longer lasting. Faceplating completely eliminates the possibility of missing a shift by removing the stock synchronizers and opening up the engagement window for faster, higher rpm shifting. This is definitely the way to go if you have a T56 in your racecar and you're looking for the quickest shifts possible. Due to the harsh nature of this process, we do not recommend this option for cars that see any street driving.

This option adds 3-4 weeks to your turnaround time.

F-BODY SPECIFIC OPTIONS:

Viper Style 2nd Gear Upgrade (here): $189.99
STRONGLY suggested for all pre-2000 model six speed transmissions equipped with the non-Viper gear, which is the weakest gear inside your T56! Starting in 2000, all T56 Transmissions came equipped with the Viper Style 2nd Gear, which features longer engagement teeth, making it much stronger. A very wise option for your pre-2000 F-Body! This option adds no extra turnaround time.

Cobra Overdrive Upgrade: $859.96
Many of our F-Body customers aren't satisfied with the generous 5th (0.74:1) and 6th (0.50:1) gear ratios that GM specified on the stock T56 Transmission.  For those customers, we offer a Cobra Overdrive Upgrade as part of our Level 3 Viperized T56 Rebuild that offers a more usable 5th (0.79:1) and 6th (0.63:1) gear ratio set.  Not available for any rebuild except Level 3.  This option adds no extra turnaround time.

2003-2004 COBRA SPECIFIC OPTIONS:

26 Spline Input Shaft (here): $429.99
From Ford, 03-04 Cobras came with a 10 spline input shaft that has proven to be the weak link in the drivetrain time and time again. During a rebuild, consider this upgrade a must-do if you do any racing at all. This option adds no extra turnaround time.

Billet Throwout Bearing Guide Tube (here): $99.99
From Ford, 03-04 Cobras came with a stamped steel guide tube that always seems prone to breakage. During a rebuild, we highly suggest upgrading to this billet steel tube so you never have to worry about breakage again. This option adds no extra turnaround time.

GM Overdrive Conversion: $829.97
The GM overdrive conversion is a good idea for those of you who use 1-4 gears to get going, and 5-6 gears to cruise. This swap changes the 5-6 gear ratios from your original .79 and .63 over to the less aggressive .74 and .50 that the F-Bodies came factory with.

As always, if you have any questions at all regarding these options, please don’t hesitate to email or call us by visiting our Contact Us page. We’re always here to help!
