What are Burst Panels for?

High horsepower builds require massive amounts of fuel to feed the hungry engine. Suppose the fuel can't enter the cylinder; it then pools in the intake manifold and can cause a backfire. That explosion tends to look for the quickest way out, leading to material fatigue or destruction of the manifold.

That's where burst panels come in; they are designed to save your intake manifold/blower manifold in the event of an engine backfire. They work by releasing pressure in the event of a backfire that would otherwise be encased in the manifold. It's essentially added insurance. Ideally, it's one you won't ever need.

At Tick, we offer two burst panel spacers for 4150 & 4500 intake manifolds. They are machined from one piece of 6061 aluminum and contain an SFI-approved burst panel. It's ideal for high horsepower-boosted applications. The spacer measures 2.375 inches tall. Not only will this panel help with improved air distribution between cylinders, but it will also act as a much-needed safety device.
