I redline and float all the time forever losing my clutch pedal and not being able to shift as well as the clutch slipping during it. Reverse is kind of messed up I'm assuming from the previous owner. I put this in last night which took longer than what they say because you really can't reach the nuts and I have small hands. I hope I got them tight enough. Anyway, had my girl work my pedal so I could bleed it after which took about a half hour. Finally she was complaining her leg was going numb. I got out from under the car to check the pedal because she couldn't tell and said it had a little pressure. I stuck my foot in and pushed it and said what the hell! What do you mean a little pressure, there's alot of pressure, I've never felt a clutch pedal like it, no wonder your leg was going numb. I took it off the jack stands, cleaned up because I was drenched in brake fluid from running down my arm and took it for a drive, OMFG! never shifted better. It only has 71,000 on it. I raced a Honda down the strip burning rubber through 3 gears no slipping and slight fade but not affecting the shifting, redlining 1st through 3rd hitting 105 mph in a 40 on the DW highway in South Nashua in short stretch before hitting a red light. Surprisingly this newer Honda kept up, couldn't beat me from a stop but rolling pretty much side by side. Stopped at the light expecting to have no pedal as usual but nope, still had a normal pedal and shifted right into first. Just AWESOME! didn't really fix my reverse issue but it helped. I fear the previous owner really beat up reverse. I'm not quite sure how the pedal needs to be adjusted but I only have maybe an eighth inch of free play in the pedal as it seemed it was threaded as far as it would go into the clevis. Maybe if I used pliers to hold it but after last night's performance, I just as soon call it good! Worth every penny!
Just as advertised, the stock hydraulics just couldn't perform.
Tick's Master Cylinder was the perfect upgrade.
Great upgrade from stock, but the removal and installation of the master cylinder it self was a pain. I would say its a 3/5 on install ease, but a 5/5 for frustration. Just a fair warning if your a DIY kinda person, be armed with wobbles, extensions, and a electric/air rachet. Otherwise than that everything else was a cake walk.
Since day one the car has never been a great, not even fair, shifting car. The car is capable of getting into the 10's but shifting has always been the issue. Never really a huge issue getting into first or reverse, but the 2-3 was horrible with the 1-2 not far behind when running at speed. I ended up on this site actually prepared to have the tranny done, I was that frustrated. I came across this master cylinder here, read about it here and elsewhere, looked into the competitors, and ultimately decided that I would take a chance on investing 10 percent of what having the tranny done would cost and see what the results would be. Worse case, it was an upgrade.
To the point - I'm seriously impressed and couldn't be happier. The t56 will never be a buttery smooth shifting tranny but I'm not going to get hung up nor miss the 2-3 shift again. And the 1-2 is smooth and fast. Hardest thing is getting used to it when you've been fighting it for years.
The install is absolutely a P.I.T.A. Unless you have hands the size of a small child, it is quite the struggle. Technically it's easy but access is next to impossible. This coming from someone who has pulled the motor and tranny twice by himself. I had to walk away from it mid day and pick up where I left off the following day, It was that bad. If I was to do it again, I'd pull the brake booster out entirely. If your comfortable around your car and maybe plan it around a brake job or fluid change, I think you could knock it out in about an hour. As opposed to the 6-8 it took me fighting to get one hand in get nuts on and off wedged in behind the booster, no line of sight and all by feel.. BUT... would I do it again, the same way for the same result? No doubt about it. Don't think about it, just do it. You won't be disappointed.
It worked better than the original. The install being a pita was the car's fault.
Great product. Ok please understand some people need to know "why" you need to throw away perfectly good OEM nuts with shoulders... Because of a clearance issue. By the way, the provided nuts should have been "nylon nuts" to avoid them backing out. The location of this unit on the '04-'06 GTO is a PITA. So nylon nuts... please. Otherwise great solution to the OEM clutch master. quick disconnect line was the perfect length. Easy to adjust pedal. No need to buy any other hard-line like one from Classic Tube. Save your $150 for something else...like a new clutch slave.
Tick prof. Definitely made a great product when they mode this. My 04 gto was came and I had an issue all the time shifting at 6200rpm+ now I'm hitting my shift points at 6800rpm everytime no problem. They even included a crap load of decals for the car . Great job on the stage 2 t56 as well.
i had typical problems it describes. clutch pedal would get soft/ hard to shift into reverse etc. this solved it 90-100%
only thing is im not a pro and dont have tiny hands so the install took about 4-5 hours really simple directions to follow but just the space makes it take time.
Install time was professional. The directions for the install... professional. Quality of the part...you guessed it professional! Tick performance will be a recommendation for life! Thanks alot!
I purchased this clutch master cylinder kit to replace the stock one on my 2006 GTO. I love it! Now I don't have to push the clutch to the floor to disengage and engage the gears. I push the clutch in about an inch or two and I'm good to go. I've been driving with it for about two years now, and I'm extremely pleased with the performance. One final note, It took me and a buddy about five hours to install. I actually had to take apart the master clutch cylinder and install it in two pieces. If you are a competent home mechanic it's a do able job. If you are not, I would suggest paying someone to install. Thanks Tick Performance.
05 gto with a 408 stroker and a stage 3 spec clutch, clutch released directly off the floor and I couldn't change gears at any rpm other than idle, replaced mc with the tick unit and every problem was solved, shifts smooth again clutch release is middle of pedal feel and I can high rpm shift now. Install was a 3 I would say just being in a tight spot and you will need a helper for the clutch bleed. Great product by a great local company.
I bought this product thinking it would help my shifting under high Rpms but it did not work!! Can anyone tell me what I can do!!
Okay so I have 05 gto (100k miles)and I've been having shifting issues lately and I honestly thought it was my clutch even my trans at times, I would have trouble shifting in to any gear at any given time, reverse always grinds(rarely didn't) I was paranoid that I was gonna need a trans rebuild, but my clutch wasn't slipping, it would happen during engagement only, finally got the master cyclinder, installed it wasn't to hard (about 1 hour) had everything I needed, drove my car and it was perfect, it was grabbing the gears, no grinds at all, I couldn't be more happy with the tick performance master at all, recommend this to everyone
Before the tick product I struggled to get into 1st and impossible to get into reverse without grinding. But now with new installed , becomes a joy to drive again not a chore.
I Waz have problems with my clutch master cylinder and it leaked on my floor and my pedal will stick to the floor some time but after buying this clutch master cylinder it fixed that problem stop waiting and buy it all ready. The People at Tick Performance Waz nice I pick mine up at Tick Performance so I can get it the same day they even helped me with directions on how to get there. Thanks
I bought my GTO used and have been doing maintenance and upgrades on it as needed. After I got a new Spec Stage 2+ clutch and Spec aluminum flywheel and a B&M Ripshifter, I thought that would fix the crappy shifting I had since buying the car.... WRONG! After much searching on the forums, I read about this Tick Master Cylinder. The price seemed fair, and all the reviews were raving about how good it works. Well, let me tell you- this thing is the single biggest improvement I have added to the car yet! All the stories are true- the trans now goes into 1st and reverse no problem at all! All the grinding of 3rd gear is gone! That's because this MC actually separates the pressure plate and clutch like it supposed to! The stock one is junk. Trust me, this Tick MC and a good bleeding of the system will cure all your shifting problems! (Unless you actually have a toasted transmission)
This product has reignited my passion for the car! You will not be sorry if you put one in yours!
Spent all Sunday figuring out how to get kit installed with such a tight gto engine compartment. Tick did an excellent job with instructions and making the kit to fit with no clearance issues. Had to drill a hole in inner fender strut tower area to be able to tighten lower master cylinder 1/2 bolt. This made access with 1/4 extension possible, this may not be the best way to do it but the only way i could access it. Auto-zone has a hand vacuum pump that works amazing for one man clutch bleeding. Great paddle feel and defiantly worth the time and money if you drive the track from time to time.
THis is by far a very good product!!!!! mod for mod this is defenetly one of the best ones ive done! if your planning on doing this for you GOAT, i highly recommend it!!!!
WOW! What a difference! I have a much better feel of my gears now. This clutch master cylinder kit truly is awesome! Shifting has become a joy again. Thank you guys!
Great product. Somewhat quick install, considering the location of the master cylinder... Great instructions, great kit overall!
I have struggled with my 06 GTO shifting problems for months. After a transmission rebuild and new clutch, I was still having problems shifting into 2nd and 3rd at RPMs over 5000. I would actually have to forcefully pull it into gear. I didn’t have any grinding. It just simply would not go into gear. Reverse was also very hard to get into gear and I would usually have to put it into 1st, gently roll the car and then go for reverse. I did a lot of research online and eventually ran across some reviews for Tick Performance Adjustable Clutch Master Cylinder Kit. I purchased the kit and had a local transmission shop install it. The shop stated several times that they didn’t think it would make any difference. I told them I already had the part, so just install it. Besides, I’ve replaced everything else. Problem solved. My car shifts smooth as silk at any RPM range. Reverse is no problem at all. I couldn’t be happier. If you are having shift problems at higher RPMs, install the kit. Customer Service was great and Military Discount.
Put a SPEC racing clutch in my 2006 GTO and could not up shift at high RPM. Tick adjustable clutch master cylinder kit fixed the problem!
I like the feel and performance of this slave. I have no problem getting the car in to reverse any more, and my shifts are perfect now. The clutch has a stronger feel over stock, its almost kicking back at you. Only on for 250 miles so far, so good.
Solved all my issued, regarding engagement, disengagement and clutch feel. If i did it again it would be my first drive train upgrade
Great product. The only problem I had was that the -4 AN line wouldn't hook up to the -3 AN line I had going to my new slave cylinder in the transmission. This is by no means the fault of Tick Performance or the master cylinder. They just assume you are going to be installing this on a car with factory clutch lines. I was finishing up a clutch replacement job on my GTO, and decided to replace the factory hard lines into the slave cylinder. Just a heads up for anybody who also might have done this/is going to do this. Luckily, I was able to buy a really strange adapter that my braided lines guy told me shouldn't exist! A -4 AN male into a -3 AN female fitting saved me from changing more lines, which might have required me to take the T56 back out. The adjustable pedal feature is really nice, too. Like the heading says, I wouldn't spend my money on a factory replacement, I would go with this one everytime. Tick Performance seems like a really good shop. I will keep them in mind with my future needs.
I had a difficult time getting the car into reverse/1st gear. Thought I was the Slave, replaced the slave and still had the spongy clutch pedal. Did some research, called Tick, finally ordered an Adjustable Master cylinder. I installed it this weekend, with great directions included by Tick as they are step by step. It is a completely new experience to shift. The Clutch is solid! Feels Great! Awesome buy, no regrets!
Have been able to adjust the peddle off the floor. It is so nice and precise. Really enjoying the GTO more than ever knowing it will really shift when I want it to.
I bought the tick peformance adjustable master cylinder and have been very impressed with the quality and performance thank you.
After fighting with my clutch system for the last 115K miles, I finaly realized it was my stock master cylinder giving me the problems all along. This was discovered after a $2,500 transmission rebuild and an $800+ custom kevlar clutch!
Now I can shift and change gears with ease, even with the stock POS shifter . Install wasn't that bad and it disengages the clutch very well. Reverse slips right into gear now.
Got a nasty stroker and this is the only product that can handle the powers. They even gave me a military discount.
I recently installed one of your Adjustable Clutch Master Cyclinder kits in my 06 GTO and man I am impressed!!!! before the install on my stock master and line I would get locked out of every gear past 5k rpms on a moderate modded 450 hp ls2. But now every gear goes in smooth at any rpm! I love it!!!!! Thanks again guys!
I've had in in for about a week now. Works like a charm...
Solved the spongey feel and missed shifts. My '05 GTO now feels like a "MUSSLE CAR SHOULD" Positive, smooth engagement of my new Centerforce Clutch, peddle pressure just little greater but you will like the feel and you will not have you clutch peddle sticking under power.
GREAT PRODUCT!
TEXAS GOAT - GTO FORUM
The adjustable master was the answer to all my clutch problems. The tech Jonathan who helped me was right on and very helpful. Thanks again couldn't be happier.
Just installed it so need more time to evalute but initially the clutch pedal feel is frim and sure with a stock clutch. Only time will tell if this lasts or if this one will need to be bled as frequently as the stock clutch master cylinder.
Had I known the product is THIS good, I would have not hesitated to pay double the price for it! Completely eliminated any shifting problems or pedal feel inconsistencies. I've had it for over 6 months now and I couldn't be happier. Installation was straight forward. This should be on the top of any GTO owner's mod list. DO NOT get headers or anything else until you install a Tick master clutch cylinder!!
The clutch pedal feels like I'm operating a performance stage 300232 system! Very good feeling. Shifts are much better. The engagement point is now very consistent and the pedal never falls the floor, not even when shifting at high RPM. Overall, I highly recommend the Tick clutch master cyl mod.
i gotta say what a difference it made the car feel. no more notchie shifts, it goes into first and reverse good now. so with the stage 3 and this master it finally feeld like it should have. plus it just ripps the gears now, hell caught rubber in 4th the other night.
